Youth crime is never far from the headlines, especially at election time. But new research from crime reduction charity, Nacro, claims that the government is at risk of undermining any progress on alternatives to custody by "playing to an incarcerative agenda". The charity says the government needs to encourage a greater use of alternatives to custody such as discharges and reparation orders if it is to reduce levels of reoffending and detention.
