[2007] EWCA Crim 234

A gas plug that formed part of a prohibited weapon was a component part within the meaning of the Firearms Act 1968 s.5. It did not matter that the component part might have originated from a de-activated weapon, as a de-activated weapon could be dissembled and the component part easily used to operate a working weapon. Accordingly the part fell outside the exception set out in the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988 s.8.
