CITY & COUNTY OF SWANSEA (Applicant) v (1) XZ (2) YZ (3) CHILDREN (BY THEIR GUARDIAN JOANNE BAMFORD) (4) PRESS, MEDIA & ORS (Respondents) (2014)

Where a reporting restriction order had been made, originally made to last until the end of criminal proceedings against a mother, and the mother had pleaded guilty to infanticide in respect of one of her children and wounding in respect of another, the court extended the order to last until the youngest of her surviving children turned 18. The case was a wholly exceptional one in which anonymity was justified not just for the children but also for the parents, because identifying the parents would lead to identification of the children. The children would suffer serious harm if their identity was to become known.
