Solicitors seek grand design for a 21st century Law Society

Next week the Law Society's 130-strong governing council will vote on how it wants to reinvent itself. After Sir David Clementi's proposals to revamp the way that lawyers are regulated, the society has already agreed to split its trade union role from its regulatory one (standards, discipline, education and training). The question now is how should it be done? How far will the solicitors' professional body distance itself from regulating the profession?
