[2007] EWCA Crim 984

Where a defendant acting in person had made deliberate admissions about his bad character during cross-examination and in his closing speech, the trial judge ought to have directed the jury about how to deal with the previous convictions. However, on the evidence, the absence of such a direction had not rendered the conviction unsafe.
