There was no statutory defence of religious use to an offence of supply of drugs in the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and even where it was accepted that the supply was for religious purposes, prosecuting the offence did not infringe the accused's rights under Arts.8 and 9 European Convention on Human Rights.
