[2004] EWCA Crim 3241

A sentence of 9 years for gross indecency with a child in respect of offences committed prior to 1 October 1997 was unlawful as the maximum sentence at the time was 2 years. A sentence of 9 years for indecent assault on a female, handed down in circumstances where the abuse was committed on a grandchild, over a long period of time and beginning when the child was very young was not manifestly excessive.
