The purpose of the Crime (International Co-operation) Act 2003 was to achieve further cooperation with overseas authorities who required assistance in obtaining evidence in criminal proceedings. It was therefore appropriate to read into s.13(1)(b) the words "or order" so that a United Kingdom territorial authority that had received a foreign request for mutual legal assistance could apply for a production order.
