Families of murder victims should receive expenses to attend courts and be given special access there to avoid meeting the accused, according to a new report.

Commissioned by the Scottish Executive, it also advocates that councils offer specific support to children affected by murder.
The report comes from the Homicide Working Group, set up by the executive following the death of Surjit Singh Chhokar and subsequent trials. Inquiries into the death of the Indian waiter highlighted the appalling way members of his family were treated.
