MPs to discuss criminal legal aid next Wednesday

Karen Buck MP has secured an adjournment debate on the impact of the proposed legal aid changes for Wednesday 13th December.  There is currently uncertainty about time - its either 3pm or 4.30pm.

We are also not yet clear about the precise title, but adjournment debates have to focus on something relevant to the MP's region.  Karen Buck's constituency is in London, so the focus of this debate is likely to be the impact of the changes on London provision.

Please can you contact your MPs to tell them about the impact on them of the proposed changes in legal aid. We are advised to stress the impact of any reduction in provision on MPs workloads. Karen's office has also suggested joint approaches, if possible, to MPs i.e. that local agencies and solicitors should approach MPs together.

After this debate, the next debate is the DCA-led one, which is listed for 11th January, so MPs across the whole country need to be briefed in readiness for that one.
