Dangerous offenders - Life imprisonment R v Brown: Court of Appeal, Criminal Division (Lord Justice Elias, Mr Justice Eady, Mr Justice Macduff): 23 September 2011 The Court of Appeal, Criminal Division, applying settled law, held a sentence of life imprisonment was not the appropriate sentence where a defendant had pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of a prostitute. Further, the minimum term of 10 years imposed was manifestly excessive. A sentence of imprisonment for public protection, with a minimum term of seven years, was substituted. read more
