Section 177 of the Criminal Justice Act 2003 did not contain a power to impose a community order requirement that excluded an offender from the United Kingdom for 12 months. The legislative objective of the provision was to reduce the risk of reoffending by excluding an offender from an area within the UK in which they were likely to get into trouble.
