Chief Justice of India to visit United Kingdom Judges

The Chief Justice of India, The Honourable Mr. S.H. Kapadia, with a delegation of other senior Indian judges, is visiting the United Kingdom this week.

The Indo-British Legal Forum is being co-hosted by the Rt. Hon. the Lord Phillips, President of the Supreme Court and the Rt. Hon. the Lord Judge, the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales on 18-20 June, at the Supreme Court on Parliament Square, London.

Accompanying the Chief Justice of India will be Mr Justice Altamas Kabir, (Supreme Court of India), Mr Justice DK Jain (Supreme Court of India) and Mr Goolam E Vahanvati, Attorney General of India and Mr HK Juneja (Private Secretary to Chief Justice of India).

Other senior judges from England Wales and Scotland will also be participating in the discussions.

This is the latest in a series of exchanges between the senior judiciary of India and the UK. Most recently in March 2008 a delegation headed by Lord Phillips when he was Lord Chief Justice, visited India.

The high level discussions will cover areas including judicial independence, environmental and socio-economic issues and freedom of expression.
