It was a very much a matter for the judge's discretion as to whether he repeated a general direction more specifically when he came to the evidence, or whether he relied on the general direction having been absorbed. The Court of Appeal urged that trial judges should take the opportunity to consult with counsel, before closing speeches, on the form of the directions they were minded to give.
