The Supreme Court (pictured) has this week begun the process of appointing new justices to replace Lord Dyson, who became master of the rolls this month and Lords Walker and Hope, who retire next year.

Society warning over LPA form

A 'hybrid' lasting power of attorney form planned by the Ministry of Justice could confuse users and lead to mistakes, the Law Society has warned. Responding to a consultation by the Office of the Public Guardian, the Society said any new form should be simple and straightforward.

The Society also raised questions about proposed online services.

CoA holds Cardiff hearings

The criminal Court of Appeal this week sat in Cardiff to hear exclusively Welsh cases for the first time in its history. The move, as the Welsh government considers a separate legal jurisdiction for the country, could lead to a court regularly sitting in Wales during each legal term.

Claims management boss jailed for fraud

The manager of a claims management company who processed fraudulent insurance claims has been jailed for 21 months. Asif Mallu, 38, organised 10 claims in 2005, making more than £12,000 through solicitors' referral fees, courtesy car hire and the recovery of vehicles.

Wealth manager becomes latest abs

A wealth management company has become the latest alternative business structure to be granted a licence by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Alexander Associates Group, based in London's Mayfair, will provide specialist private and corporate legal services in addition to its existing services. The SRA also announced it had licensed Pudsey Legal Services, Pudsey Legal and Kayes Solicitors as one ABS.
