I WOULD like to point out, following Greg Foxsmith?s comments, that the current legal aid reforms are about increasing the number of people helped by legal aid in the future (Will MP help save legal aid? July 6).

In Islington alone we were able to help 7,592 people last year ? about 300 more than the previous year.

Across London as a whole we helped about 112,500 people, an increase of 12.5 per cent. Many of these people were among the most vulnerable in the capital.

We will continue to work with our skilled and dedicated advice providers to ensure people get the help they need. This is fundamental to both legal and social justice.
