The strange case of the disappearing bobby

PUBLISHED September 9, 2013

The police have said sorry to the Duke of York after armed officers challenged him while he walked in the garden of Buckingham Palace, somewhere that you might expect to see a member of the Royal family. Following the discovery of a trespasser in the Palace last week, the Met were evidently taking no chances, though Scotland Yard denied that the Duke was forced to lie on the ground at gunpoint. He acknowledged that the police had a difficult job to do and sometimes got it wrong. "I am grateful for their apology and look forward to a safe walk in the garden in the future," he said.
