Home Secretary Charles Clarke yesterday thanked the Daily Mirror for exposing the "challenges" facing Britain's new law-and-order force.

He promised a revamp of Community Support Officers after our undercover investigator Pete Sampson found poor training and plummeting morale among patrol officers.
But he insisted CSOs were here to stay as part of Labour's bid to put more bobbies back on the beat.
