R v JOHN BRIAN ELY (2005)

PUBLISHED December 21, 2005

The convictions of a 71 year old former teacher for offences of indecent assault and buggery committed between 1962 and 1979 against his pupils were safe. Neither the cumulative effect of a number of criticisms about the conduct of the trial nor the availability of fresh evidence had affected their safety. Sentence was reduced from 15 years' imprisonment to 12 years' imprisonment.
