Although offences of possession of indecent photographs of children normally warranted tough deterrent sentencing, the case of an offender who had suffered extensive violent and sexual abuse as a child, which was directly causative of the offending, and who had made considerable efforts to overcome that background, was an exception that required a community penalty.
