The procedure for dealing with summary offences where the defendant was or might be mentally ill or suffering from severe mental impairment was to be found in s.37(3) Mental Health Act 1983 when read in conjunction with s.11(1) Powers of Criminal Courts (Sentencing) Act 2000. This included cases heard in the youth court.
