Media faces challenges on road to open justice

Senior judges are keen to open up the justice system. In the family courts, Sir James Munby has pushed forward “transparency” — and ​would by now have gone further had it not been for opposition from children’s lawyers. The Court of Protection, which deals with the vulnerable, has also been opened across the country. Lord Thomas, lord chief justice, told MPs recently that “there should be very, very few occasions where a hearing before the Court of Protection has to be in private”.
