Ben Cooper, of Doughty Street Chambers, acted for Michael Halliday, a gay man facing extradition to the United Arab Emirates. He was discharged because of the real prospect of torture and a denial of justice at trial. The court ruled that his sexuality increased the risk of his ill-treatment in custody in Dubai, where homosexuality is outlawed.
