A senior judge has admitted that some of his colleagues do not understand how parts of the early release system for prisoners work in practice.

Lord Macfadyen, the chairman of the Sentencing Commission for Scotland, said the "complex" system suffered from a lack of transparency.
The commission has begun a consultation process on the future of early release and supervision in the community.
