The sum of £40,000 was an appropriate starting point for a fine where a company had pled guilty to contravening the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 s.3(1) and s.33(1)(a), resulting in serious injury and death to occupants of a car, discounted by 25 per cent to reflect the timing of the plea.
