The row over what did or did not take place between Andrew Mitchell and the Met's finest at the gates of Downing Street has now reached farcical proportions. It has taken more than two months for a Channel 4 investigation to establish what the police could (and should) have found out in days. The public is entitled to ask what on earth is going on.
