The Central Arbitration Committee had jurisdiction under its general powers conferred by the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 to order the re-run of a ballot to determine whether a majority of workers supported the recognition of a trade union for the purposes of collective bargaining on their behalf.
