Cannabis farms: a growing blight on village life

In a league table of drug barons, the mystery cannabis grower of Newport, south Wales, will struggle to scrape a footnote. And yet the method he/she employed demonstrated a touch of genius. As The Daily Telegraph reported yesterday, more than 20 cannabis plants - which when fully grown can have a street value of £1,000 - were secreted among the begonias and petunias in six display planters placed by the council around the city centre. Regularly watered and fertilised, the illegal plants thrived.
