(1) PETULA FITZPATRICK (2) BRUCE WILKEY (3) THOMAS, BOYD & WHITE (A FIRM) v COMMISSIONER OF POLICE OF THE METROPOLIS (2012)

The arrest of two solicitors had been the result of a police officer's actual, and objectively reasonable, suspicion that they had committed or were committing offences of entering into money laundering arrangements under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 s.328 and s.330, and that the arrests were necessary to allow the prompt and reasonable investigation of those offences. The solicitors' lengthy time on police bail was the result of delays arising in the complex investigation that followed and did not breach their rights under the European Convention on Human Rights 1950 art.8.
