The furore over the decision of the director of public prosecutions (DPP), Alison Saunders, not to prosecute Lord Janner of Braunstone for alleged child sex abuse confirms why such decisions are taken by an independent DPP as the head of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and not by the police or politicians or alleged victims.
