A policeman initially cleared of dangerous driving after allegedly being clocked at 159mph is to face a retrial.

PC Mark Milton, 38, of Telford, Shropshire, will face his second trial after the high court earlier this year overturned his acquittal.

The West Mercia traffic officer yesterday appeared in court at Ludlow, where District Judge Peter Wallace ordered the retrial should go ahead on August 21.

PC Milton is accused of travelling at 159mph on the M54, 131mph on the A5 and 91mph in 30mph areas early on December 5 2003.

At the original hearing in April 2005 he denied all charges.
