The imposition of an automatic life sentence under s.2 Crime (Sentences) Act 1997 would not contravene an offender's rights under the European Convention on Human Rights if the courts applied the section in a manner that did not result in offenders being sentenced to life imprisonment when they did not constitute a significant risk to the public. * Leave to appeal to the House of Lords refused.
