[2011] EWCA Crim 1449
A custodial sentence was appropriate where an offender had pleaded guilty to possession of false identity documents with intent, having been arrested at a railway station. The fact that pilot schemes operating at that time at a number of United Kingdom airports enabled similar offenders to avoid prosecution by accepting a caution and deportation had no bearing on the appropriateness of the sentence; such schemes could not be allowed to drive the administration of justice by the criminal courts.
