In appeals against sentences of 9 months and 12 months' imprisonment for offences of violent disorder and assault occasioning actual bodily harm on a disabled boy for whom the appellants were the main carers, although correct in principle, the Court of Appeal was of the opinion that the sentences had to be reduced as an act of mercy and were accordingly substituted with terms of four months and six months' imprisonment.
