Fears over 'condoning attacks' law

A new offence of condoning or glorifying terrorism could be misused to prosecute Muslim leaders who may appear to be praising terrorist activities while defending their communities from racist attacks, the Government has been warned.

Ministers were known to favour the introduction of new measures to combat the terror threat even before Thursday's bombings in London. But this week's events will have catapulted such proposals to the top of the political agenda.
