[2007] EWCA Crim 692

In most cases, a sentencing judge should obtain a pre-sentence report before deciding whether a sexual offender posed a significant risk to members of the public of serious harm occasioned by the commission by him of further specified offences and whether, therefore, he should be sentenced to imprisonment for public protection.
