The Law Society will this week react with concern to government proposals to clamp down on alleged tax avoidance through limited liability partnerships.
In its response to an HMRC consultation on measures announced in this year's budget it will say that most, if not all, law firms will be able to demonstrate that their partnership arrangements are not aimed at avoiding national insurance.
Gary Richards, chair of the Society's tax committee, said the Society would also be questioning 'whether now is the time to be imposing additional tax burdens on businesses generally'.
The consultation closes on Thursday (8 August).
