Safeguards needed if corroboration to end, says MacAskill

SNP Ministers have been forced to reconsider widespread changes to criminal law after their plans to scrap the need for corroboration provoked outrage among lawyers. Although Kenny MacAskill, the Justice Secretary, insisted that he remained committed to abolishing the fundamental principle of Scots law, he conceded that safeguards might be needed to prevent possible miscarriages of justice.
