In line with the guidelines set out in R v Ganley (Stephen) Times, June 07, 2000, whilst no deduction for time spent in custody, prior to sentencing, could be made on a fixed-term 18-month detention and training order, the judge was obliged to have considered the circumstances surrounding the appellant's case in setting the length of the order. In the circumstances, the order passed was considered to be too long and was substituted with a shorter detention and training order of 12 months.
