Although a deterrent sentence had been needed for offences of perverting the course of justice where a step-father had deliberately been fitted with electronic monitoring equipment instead of his step-son, a starting of point of three years had been too high. Sentences of two years' imprisonment were replaced on appeal by sentences of 18 months' imprisonment.
