A starting point of 10 years' imprisonment was appropriate following the conviction of the organiser and main beneficiary of a conspiracy to cheat the Revenue by smuggling gold where the conspiracy had lasted 16 months, smuggling around 3,000kg of gold causing a loss to the Revenue of some £6.5 million.
