A community policeman fighting crime and anti-social behaviour on a run-down estate is facing an unprecedented campaign by some residents to oust him. They say he is too tough on young tearaways.

Seven people staged an eight-hour protest on top of a block of flats to demand the removal of Pc Henry Garrod, who was praised for his fight against crime by the Prime Minister when he visited the Graylands estate in Basildon, Essex, in November.
