Proposals to restrict judicial review are an affront to the rule of law

Mr Chris Grayling, the Secretary of State for Justice, wants to stop claims for judicial review by public interest groups such as NGOs, charities and pressure groups. A consultation on the subject closed last week, Mr Grayling?s reasoning demonstrates his lack of understanding of the importance of judicial review advocacy as a check on abuse of power by public bodies and as a promoter of higher standards of legality, fairness and proportionality.
