Andrew Mitchell has been vindicated this week by the formal allegations of gross misconduct against five policemen, one of whom is also facing a criminal charge. This, along with the knowledge that three Midlands officers representing the Police Federation lied about a meeting with Mr Mitchell, ought to close the main Plebgate file. This is not to pre-judge the enquires: it is simply a recognition that for the Crown Prosecution Service and the Independent Police Complaints Commission to act shows that there were serious improprieties around the handling of the whole affair.
