A martial arts expert who bludgeoned his girlfriend to death with a lamp during a row was jailed for life yesterday.

Martin Inglis, 37, claimed he suffered months of verbal abuse from Charlotte Maltese, a 25-year-old model. Inglis, an IT consultant, admitted killing her at their Docklands home in London but claimed he lost his mind under her provocation.

But Blackfriars Crown Court heard that he was an "arrogant and controlling" force in the relationship and he was found guilty of murder.

Judge Timothy Pontius said he must serve at least 17 years.
