More than 100 magistrates' courts in England and Wales have been closed since Labour took office, denying many communities the "local justice" that ministers claim to support.

Figures compiled by the Liberal Democrats show 115 courts have shut since 1997. Wales has been hardest hit with 10 closures since 1997, Devon lost eight in 2001 alone and Humberside saw seven closures in the same year.
