A hard core of hunt members plans to flout the ban within days of it coming into force this week in order to test in the courts what they believe is an unworkable, unenforceable law.

The majority of hunts in England and Wales say they will not defy the law if, as expected, the ban on hunting with dogs begins at midnight on Thursday.
