The Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago, in repealing the provisions in the Integrity in Public Life Act 1987 (Trinidad and Tobago) and the Integrity in Public Life Act 2000 (Trinidad and Tobago) which imposed a five-year limitation period on instituting prosecutions under the Act, intended there to be no limitation period at all. The default six-month limitation period provided for by the Summary Courts Act 1918 (Trinidad and Tobago) s.33(2) was disapplied by the evidence of a clear intention to the contrary.
