An assurance wrongly given and allegations of serious crimes

The decision by Mr Justice Sweeney to stop the trial of a man accused of involvement in the 1982 IRA bombing of Hyde Park raises exceptionally important and difficult issues. It is very regrettable that the Attorney-General decided not to take the case to the Court of Appeal so the matter could be considered by the Lord Chief Justice and other senior judges.
