[2013] EWCA Crim 1069
A judge's decision to admit hearsay evidence given by a 14-year-old youth who had been given assurances by the police that he would not be called to give oral evidence was upheld where the assurances had been given after a previous court ruling confirming the boy's fear of one of the accused and where the judge had highlighted the potential prejudice to the defence in not being able to cross-examine the witness and had emphasised the need for caution.
